The David T. Weir Memorial Award was first presented by the Bradley Central High School Football Booster Club in 2006. The first award was presented to Logan
Watson of the 2005-2006 Bradley Bears. The award is the second highest award presented by the club to BCHS football players, second only to the Rex Dockery Award. The David T. Weir Award is presented to the
player that consistently represents the qualities that David Weir showed as a Bradley Bear football player and as a soldier in the 101st Airborne Division, US Army, during Operation Enduring Freedom. The first award,
to Logan Watson, was presented by Chris Weir, David's older brother, who thanked the team for its support of him and his family during the loss of David in combat in Iraq in 2006. Weir's Bradley Bear jersey, #24, was
retired during the 2006 season, never to again be worn by a Bradley Bear, until Weir's son Gavin is old enough to join the team. |
